Sit Stay Fetch Review

Sit Stay Fetch Review

I am really impressed with the amount of content that you get for your money with this product. It is a dog obedience training course that can be downloaded to your computer and ready to use in around 30 minutes (depending on your Internet connection).

The centerpiece is the Sit Stay Fetch pdf e-book. This consists of 247 pages of information. Part 1 is an introduction to keeping a dog.

It talks about

At the end of part 1 it starts to introduce the fundamental principles behind dog obedience training.

This part is good, common sense stuff that will help you select the best dog for you, your family and lifestyle.

Part 2 starts with a bit of dog psychology. It teaches you how to recognize what your dog is thinking or feeling through it’s body language. It also give you some ideas on how to communicate what you want from your pet through your facial expressions and body language. These are simple but effective techniques.

It then goes into a long list of common dog behavior problems. There are 17 common behavior problems addressed, like biting and barking. Each section explains why the dog might be doing this. At the end of each section, a case study is given explaining a dog and owner in this situation and how they overcame it.

The next section of part 2 gets into the nuts and bolts of the course.

It talks about basic dog obedience training. It lists 14 basic dog training commands. For each command it gives the aim and purpose of teaching this command to your dog. It then breaks the command down into basic steps.

Each step is accompanied by a photograph of a person doing the command with their pet. This helps to put more meaning to the words.

The combination of text and pictures really helps to get the point across and is a good teaching tool. Once you have read the text a few times and looked at the pictures you will be able to start teaching your dog.

Like with most things that are worthwhile, it will take a bit of commitment from you to stick with teaching the commands to your dog. It will not happen overnight but it will happen.

The final part of this section is a plan on how you can put all these commands into practice in a concerted and focused way. This plan is really useful in getting you to stick with the training and see real progress in your dog’s obedience and behavior.

Onto part 3.

Part 3 talks about the current craze of dog whispering. Everyone is a potential dog whisperer these days it seems. The text explains what it is about and is really just reference information. It pulls out the important aspects of being a dog whisperer so that you can apply some of these principles to your relationship with your dog.

The more important section of part 3 for me is on common health problems that your dog may suffer. It explains how the dogs behavior may change and some simple remedies for these issues.

Then there are more advanced dog obedience training.

There are 11 more commands that you can teach your dog. The same style as the previous commands is used : step by step breakdown with photographs at each step. This is an effective method.

At the end of all the commands you will be able to control your dog in public and in your own yard. The commands are not things like teaching him to balance a dog biscuit on his nose but just the commands you need so that your dog is properly socialized and can act responsibly in social situations.

Learning these skills will benefit both you and your pet.

The book also comes as an audio so that you can listen to it on a CD or mp3. I found this useful for listening to the commands as I taught my dog. It can also be listened to in the car or elsewhere if you are too busy to be reading books. Although you miss out a bit on the photographs.

There are a number of other pdf e-books that come as separate bonuses with the product. They are smaller books – around 10-30 pages each – but still excellent. They all deal with obedience and behavior training of your dog.

They cover things like house training, grooming, dealing with aggressive dogs, becoming and staying the alpha male of the pack and training your dog for security work.

Another bonus that I thought was really good was an e-book on some of the consultations that the SitStayFetch team have dealt with in the past. This is like an email sent in by someone with a dog training problem. The email is presented and then how the team would deal with the problem. If you have any issues with your pet then you will probably find it in this e-book as it covers 20 common problems and is about 83 pages worth.

And that’s it, phew. It’s a lot of really useful information that you will come back to again and again. I think it is great value for money if you think that a single lesson with a dog trainer would cost more than this product.
